Day 3 - Semis & Finals Day
South Cliff Bowling Club Scarborough
The eight competitors included four players who had taken up bowling within the past three years. The matches were very competitive and enjoyed by all who participated and watched. In the Ladies competition, Joyce never recovered from Wendy’s superb start, where she was 8 up after 4 ends. Jeanne & Pauline T enjoyed a very tight match. With two ends to go, Jeanne was losing by one shot. She scored a 4 on the 17th end and won by two shots.
In the men’s competition, Bill was 7 down after three ends but clawed his way back to victory by 18 shots to 13 against Paul H. Bill’s opponent in the final would be Paul B who won by 18-14 against Graham W who produced the shot of the tournament - turning a four shot loss into a three shot win with his last wood on the 17th end.
After a lunch break the finals took place on rinks that had not been used in the competition. Despite some showers, the competitors produced some excellent bowling
The Ladies section was a very closely fought match, initially it was nip and tuck with Wendy & Jeanne being separated by 1 shot. Jeanne drew ahead and after 13 ends was 14-7 up. Wendy chipped away at this and moved to within 3 shots before Jeanne consolidated her position winning by 16-11.
Meanwhile, Bill faced playing catch up being 15-6 down to Paul B after 11 ends. Paul was in superb form and ran out a worthy winner 23-9 after 16 ends.
At the presentations, Ken E thanked everyone for attending and competing and invited Pauline V - Ladies Captain and former Yorkshire Ladies player to present the trophies. Pauline thanked the organisers - Ken E, Bill E, John S, John R and Wendy S for doing such an excellent job at allowing members to play competitive bowls in these difficult times.
Trophies were presented to Jeanne H & Paul B
