The first set of finals saw the men’s and ladies pairs played with the best weather of the week and the bowling, particularly on the ladies rink matched the weather. The matches were played - 1 hour 30 or 16 ends, whichever comes first.

In the ladies pairs Julia H & Wendy S had a good start being 5 -0 up after 5 ends. Pauline C & Pauline T came back and after 11 ends they were one shot down 10-11. After 13 ends it was all square at 12-12. The whistle went before the start of the next end, necessitating an extra end which the Pauline C& Pauline T won - the final score was 13-12.

In the men’s pairs Vernon C & Paul B, took a commanding lead of 17-1 after 7 ends. John H & Tony R fought back, picking up 7 points but time was against them and they went down 19-7 after 13 ends.

After lunch the singles took place - first to 21. The ladies saw Pauline V face Heather B. Pauline opened up a lead which Heather whittled away and after 9 ends Pauline led 11-8. Pauline improved her lead running out winner 21-10.

Both men finalists, John H & Paul B had played each other in the pairs. Paul opened up a lead but John picked up shots and after 11 ends Paul held a 14-5 lead. He eventually won 21-10 after 20 ends.

The triples featuring Pauline V, Joyce C, & P Bishop ( his third final) playing the all ladies team of Heather B, Pauline C & Wendy S. The mixed team got off to an excellent start winning the first 10 ends to lead 18-0. The score belies the fact that the Ladies team were often in a strong position only to be thwarted. After 11 ends the Ladies got on the scoreboard with 2 shots. The final score was 19-2

Following the matches there was a presentation ceremony followed by a social event - a meal of chilli con carne and rice followed by apple pie and ice cream. Thanks go to the organisers - Pauline V, Bill, John, and Ken and many thanks to Wendy for all her hard work in the kitchen.
