Beyond the Green
As an Asset of Community Value we are endeavouring to develop other areas for the benefit of the Community. To date, a small group of dedicated gardeners (all club members) have redeveloped the garden areas. Scarbrorough Borough Council have been supportive in replacing the very old and deteriorating rose beds and providing advice. Plants have been donated by B&Q and members and we have received some excellent comments from members of the public who walk this area. The Club entered the All Muck & Magic competition and recieved some very positive comments from the judges. We were delighted to be awarded a Silver Gilt certificate and The Most Promising New Entry - cup & certificate at the annual awards ceremony. During Covid, a fairy garden was constructed and is regularly visited by youngsters and their parents/grand parents.
Members have also renovated and repaired the benches with the materials being provided by the Council, repainted the clubhouse.
Scarborough Athletics Club use the clubhouse every Monday as a meeting place ahead of their runs.
For the past two years we have supported Radio York's 'Cake & a Cuppa' initiative on Yorkshire Day. This has involved providing delicacies including - Parkin, Spaffy & Fat Rascals. Visitors are encouraged to have a go at 'Welly Wanging' and 'Bash the Ferret'. Over 50 visitors attended, many were unaware of the existence and location of the Club.
Charity days are held and in the past two years we have supported St Catherine's Hospice, raising over £1200 and this year we are on target to raise over £1000 for Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
The monthly Sunday Lunches are always well attended - the maximum of 30 diners is always met and is made up of a members of the club and the local community.
